Chloride tratment of fine metallurgical dusts

  • Original language description

Treatment of metallurgical dust samples by gaseous hydrogen chloride at various temperatures was studied. In the entire world, half million tons of the steelmaking waste is dumped every year in stockpiles. Essential component of this waste is zinc ferrite ZnFe2O4, which is extremely stable, and separation seems not to be economical. Dissolving of the ferrite requires large amount of chemicals and gain of zinc is too low. Thermal treatment of fine grain waste is also expensive and separation of zinc is insufficient for returning the residue to metallurgical process. Attention was paid to the possibilities of obtaining zinc from this dangerous wastes and aplication of waste PVC as a source of the hydrogen chloride.
