Mathematical modeling of microstructure evolution during hot rolling of AISI304 stainless steel
Original language description
The aim of this paper is to review the potential for modelling of microstructure development by means of FEM-based programs. For this purpose, the existing FormFEM software was furnished with a module capable of computing the degree of softening and thesize of recrystallized grains according to standard equations. The AISI304 austenitic stainless steel was used for the actual simulation. The physical simulation consisted in rolling of specimens of the above steel with one pass. After this rolling step, dwells of various durations were included to simulate interpass delays in strip rolling. Microstructures of specimens were examined to reveal effects of plastic straining and to detect presence of recrystallized grains. The laboratory experiment was then simulated with the FormFEM program. In addition to ordinary results, values of structure parameters have been newly obtained (the degree of softening, residual strain and the recrystallized grain size).
