    The paper contains description of mathematical analysis of rolling of a slab in a universal rolling mill (vertical and horizontal stands). It covers the effects of technology of vertical rolling on the slab section (dog-bone shape) prior to horizontal rolling and, subsequently, on the final slab section shape upon horizontal rolling. Three variants of vertical rolling process were compared with respect the amount of scrap produced by trimming the non-conforming ends of the slab.
