Transformation characteristics of selected ternary and quaternary shape memory alloys from systems Ni-Ti-(X); (X=Cu, Co, Mo)

  • Original language description

Transformation in Ni-Ti-Cu alloys containing Cu up to approx. 5at.% occurs as in binary alloys. This means that it is a single-phase transformation. If the content of Cu in the alloy is higher than approx. 7at.%, high temperature phase B2 is transformedto martensite B19 and afterwards to martensite B19´. Ni-Ti-Co alloys transform according to the sequence B2->R->B19´, i.e. similarly as certain group of binary alloys or alloys of the system Ni-Ti-Fe. Alloys Ni46-Ti50-Co4, Ni40-Ti50-Cu10 and Ni44.5-Ti50-Cu5-Mo0.5 (at.%) were chosen as experimental material. The alloys were prepared by high frequency induction vacuum melt in graphite crucible, casting was made into graphite moulds. The casting was then re-forged by hot swaging and drawn to the final formof wire. The paper is focused on investigation of transformation characteristics of the above mentioned alloys in dependence on heat treatment or forming. Measurement of transformation temperatures was made by resistometric method.
