MINOR PHASE EVOLUTION IN AISI 316LN NIOBIUM STABILISED STEELS DURING CREEP AT 650°C
Original language description
The microstructural stability of heat resistant CrNi(Mo) austenitic steels can be significantly affected by both nitrogen and strong carbide/nitride forming elements additions. The role of precipitates in the achievements of good creep properties has been extensively studied for a long time. Although many minor phases are now well documented there are still contradictions and missing thermodynamic data about some minor phases. This paper deals with results of microstructural studies on the minor phase evolution in wrought AISI 316LN niobium stabilised steels during long - term creep exposure at 650°C. Two casts with niobium additions of 0.1 and 0.3wt.%, respectively, were studied. The attention has been paid to evaluation of precipitation sequence anddimensional stability of minor phases. After long-term creep exposure at 650°C the following minor phases were present in both casts investigated: Z phase, M6X, sigma phase and eta Laves.
