Determination of Brittle Fracture Properties of Structural Steels usány Subsize Specimen
Original language description
Evaluation of mechanical properties of structural materials of components is one of the key points for producing reliable integrity assessments and correct residual life predictions. Evaluation of mechanical properties is inherently a destructive technique, since it requires taking of material samples directly from the component. This can usually be performed only when the sample size is so small that minor repairing or even no repairing at all is needed to allow further operation of the component. Thisnecessity implies the use of very small specimens, usually not complying with the requirements of widely used test standards. In this paper the result of fracture toughness evaluation for three types of structural steel using the so called 1:2 scaled Charpy specimen are presented. The results are presented in the form of master curve and they are validated with master curves evaluating using the standard fracture toughness specimens.
