EFFECT OF COOLING RATE ON THE PHASE TRANSFORMATION TEMPERATURES AND STRUCTURAL HETEROGENEITY OF IN 792-5A NICKEL BASED SUPER-ALLOY

  • Original language description

The paper deals with the effect of cooling rate on solidification behaviour of IN 792-5A nickel based super-alloy and on resulting structural heterogeneity of this alloy. Samples taken from as-received state were heated with controlled ramp rates (1, 5,10 and 20°C/min) and immediately after melting they were cooled with the same controlled ramp rate with use of the laboratory experimental system SETARAM SETSYS 18TM and the differential thermal analysis method (DTA). Dependence of the following phase transformation temperatures on heating/cooling rate was determined: the solid formation temperature from the liquid (liquidus), the MC carbide formation temperature, the gama/gama' eutectic formation temperature, the final solidification temperature (solidus), the gama' precipitation temperature from the gama matrix. Then the microanalysis of minority phases was conducted with use of X-ray spectroscopy and microstructure of the individual samples was documented by scanning electron microsc
