Numerical modeling of thermal processes of continuous steel casting
Original language description
Heat transfer in continuous casting of the steel can be understood as non-stationary process with complicated boundary conditions solutions. With the growing performance of the modern computers, there has been great interest in utilization of the sophisticated software for the thermal calculations as well as for calculations of stress state and prediction of segregation during continuous casting of steel. The Department of Thermal Engineering Technical University of Ostrava was created sophisticated software based on the explicit difference method, which solves the problems of temperature fields during the continuous casting process. If some of input parameters such as cooling water flow through the mould, casting temperature, chemical composition, etc. are know, it is possible to predict the thickness of the casting crust, the total solidification time, or risk of break out situation. This paper provides simulation results of two most frequently casting steel brands
