Influence of Microstructural Characteristics and Various Testing Methods on Evaluation of Resistance of Duplex Steels 2205 to Sulphide Stress Cracking

  • Original language description

The present work deals with the influence of micro-structural characteristics and various testing methods used for the assessment of resistance of duplex steels 2205 to sulphide stress cracking (SSC). Investigation used two heats of duplex steels markedA and B. Each of these heats was evaluated both in the as-supplied state (A/AR, B/AR) and in the state after laboratory annealing at 800 C/5h/air (A/AN, B/AN). Micro-structure of steel in the as supplied state was formed by two-phase ferritic-austeniticstructure, in the state after annealing by ferrite, austenite and ? phase. Testing of resistance of duplex steels was carried out according to the NACE TM 0177 and ASTM G49-85 standards. Resistance of duplex steels 2205 to SSC was in our case very good.It should be noted, however, that micro-structural changes affected the level of resistance both of the heat A, when the difference of critical stresses was approx. 50 MPa, and also the heat B, where these changes were manifested by diffe
