Mechanical Properties of Low-alloyed Molybdenum Alloys in Single Crystalline Form and after Plastic Deformation Using Nano-indentation Tests

  • Original language description

Nano-indentation methods are applied to study nano-scale material deformations and to enable accurate measurements of indentation load (P) and indentation depth (h). Mechanical properties, Young?s modulus and hardness can be obtained from nano-indentation by numerical calculations of the load-displacement curves including loading and unloading process according to Oliver-Pharr method. Another method used to measure hardness from load-depth curves is work-of-indentation method. In this article, the indentation hardness, Young?s modulus, total and plastic work of the low-alloyed molybdenum single crystals were investigated. Hardness from the Oliver and Pharr analysis and the work-of-indentation method were compared. The influence of alloying element, crystallographic orientation of single crystals and plastic deformation on these nano-scale properties was studied. The description and characterization of the observed indentation size effect through the application of the Meyer?s law was c
