HSLA 100 steel and its properties upon severe hot deformation
Original language description
Constant demand for quality and excellent mechanical properties of hot-rolled sheet and strip for shipbuilding and for sizable welded tubes for oil and gas pipelines has an impact on the interest in producing HSLA steels. The basic strengthening mechanism in typical HSLA steels depends (apart from the carbon content) on the nature of thermomechanical treatment, the finish-forming temperature and the cooling rate. Selection of the finish-forming temperature should take into account the effects of precipitation hardening which inhibits the recrystallization. It should therefore be below the recrystallization temperature. Forming should end below 800 °C, where heavily deformed austenite transforms into fine ferrite. The steel employed in the experiment had the following chemical composition (wt. %): 0.062 C; 0.75 Mn; 0.77 Si; 0.53 Cu; 3.45 Ni; 0.64 Cr; 0.50 Mo; 0.036 Nb; 0.009 P; 0.0065 S; 0.073 Al. The stock was forged at 1,150°C and converted into 25 x 40 x 500 mm blocks. From these, st
