Study of interface hyper-eutectoid steels welded by forge welding
Original language description
This paper presents results of the study of microstructure and mechanical properties of a composite material produced by forge welding: Damascus steel is consisting of carbon steel and Cr-Ni-W-Mo steel. Output material is combination of characteristics of both components, which expands its potential field of use. Its microstructure was examined with the aid of light and scanning electron microscopes and an energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS). Specimens in the scanning electron microscope were observedin the secondary electron imaging (SEI) mode and with the use of the backscattered electron contrast revealing the materials contrast (BEC). Approximate distribution of alloying elements in the interface area was determined by line scan. Microstructure of the material upon annealing consists of ferrite with scattered secondary carbides and pearlite. On tempering, the microstructure contains a high proportion of decomposed martensite laths. It was found by means of EDS that on the weld in
