Original language description
Severe plastic deformation of titanium creates an ultrafine-grained micro-structure, which results in significantly enhanced mechanical properties, including also an increase in the high cycle fatigue strength. This work addresses the challenge of maintaining the high level of properties provided by severe plastic deformation processing techniques achieved in laboratory scale samples also in commercial scale production of CP titanium semi-products. Various ways for optimising the strength and fatigue endurance limit in long length Grade 2 titanium rod processed by equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) with subsequent thermal mechanical treatments are considered in this paper. Low temperature annealing of rods has been found to increase the fatigue limit, simultaneously enhancing the strength and ductility of ultrafine-grained titanium.
