Dynamic Recrystallization and Activation Energy at Hot Forming of the Alloy Fe-40Al-Zr-B
Result description
The fundamental aim was to determine the activation energy of the iron aluminide of the type Fe-40Al-Zr-B. Composition of the studied material in wt.% was 24.4 Al ? 0.17 Mn ? 0.02 C ? 0.17 Zr ? 0.011 B (the remainder is Fe). The aluminium content corresponded to 40.0 at.%. The uniaxial hot compression tests of the cylindrical specimens were performed after the unified preheating to the temperature of 1200°C. The forming temperatures 800 ? 1200°C and the nominal strain rate values 0.05 ? 30 s-1 were chosen. The value of the apparent activation energy Q = 561 kJ x mol-1 in hot forming was calculated. The comparison of this very high value with other results showed an extremely strong strengthening effect of Zr and B in this alloy. Using the obtained value of the activation energy it was possible to derive the useful equations, describing the maximum deformation resistance and the start of the dynamic recrystallization of the investigated material in dependence on temperature and strain r
