Testing and Evaluation of NiTiMe(Me=Co,Cu,Hf,Nb,Zr) Alloys Resistance to Pitting Corrosion
Original language description
NiTi (Nitinol) based alloys are used as functional materials and/or metallic biomaterials. Their transformation characteristics and many properties can be modified by addition of some elements (Co, Cu, Hf, Nb, Zr), which probably change corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. For comparative corrosion tests the following alloys were used: Ni40-Ti50-Cu10, Ni50-Ti35-Cu15, Ni46-Ti50-Co4, Ni50-Ti42-Hf8, Ni50-Ti25-Nb15-Zr10, Ni50-Ti42-Zr8 and reference one Ni50-Ti50 (NiTi), which were prepared at the Department of Non-ferrous Metals, Refining and Recycling in VSB-TU Ostrava. Resistance to pitting was compared by depassivation and repassivation potential values, measured by standard potentiodynamic polarization method with artificial saliva. The positiveinfluence of Cu addition (10-15%) was confirmed. Negligible change of pitting potentials values was recorded on NiTi with Co. Increased resistance to pitting was found out for NiTi alloys with Hf, Nb and Zr additions, and the best resista
