Effect of heat treatment on properties of TiNb based alloys
Original language description
The study of binary TiNb-based alloys that exhibit good biocompatibility and, under certain conditions, superelastic behaviour, was realised. For this reason, the TiNb alloys are considered as a potential replacement of TiNi-based alloys, for medical purposes. In the present work the influence of Nb content and thermal and mechanical treatment on the microstructure features and on the microhardness values was studied in two TiNb-based alloys with 22 and 25 at.% Nb after rotary forging. Heat treatment (HT) consisted of different conditions. Annealing at 900°C for 1 hour in Ar gas and water quenching from 900°C (HT1), annealing at 900°C for 1 hour in Ar (HT2), in H2 (HT3) or in Ar followed by H2 treatment (HT4) with water quenching from 330°C. Microstructure properties were studied using metallographic observation, microhardness measurement, EDS phase analysis. Hydrogen content in specimens was determined by Leco RH600 analyzer.
