Structure and properties of ultra-fine grain titanium for dental implants
Original language description
Authors describe production of ultra-fine grained metallic materials based on titanium. Preparation of ultra-fine grained and nano-structural materials requires new concept of research and manufacturing processes. Two possibilities exist for preparationof ultra-fine grained and nano-structural materials: the preparation may be based on use of micro-structures, which are further miniaturised (?top-down concept?), or it can create directly structures on atomic and molecular level (?bottom-up concept?). The first approach is identical with refining of original grains, the second one with synthesis. The bottom-up concept is still under development, but it has unusually extensive consequences and it may bring about a complete changeover of the existing production chains. The top-down concept uses for grain refining the processes of severe plastic deformation. Refining of grain of technically pure titanium (CP) was achieved by equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) technique.
