Dependence of photocatalytic activity of ZnxCd1-xS quantum dot composition
Original language description
Colloid aqueous dispersions containing ZnxCd1-xS quantum dots (QDs) of the different composition x were prepared by precipitation of zinc and cadmium acetates with sodium sulphide in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) used for stabilization. From UV-VIS spectra transition energies of the QDs were determined and used for calculation of their sizes which were found to depend on their composition: the QDs size decreased with increasing the Zn content. The photocatalytic activity of the ZnxCd1-xS QDs was studied using methylene blue (MB) decomposition under UV irradiation with the maximum intensity of 365 nm (3.4 eV). Three different regions with different photocatalytic activity depending on the Zn content were recognized. It was shownthat quantum levels of the QDs, which can be excited by the incident irradiation, have important influence on their photocatalytic activity. The maximal photocatalytic activity was achieved at x = 0.6 when the QDs transition energy was eq
