REMOVAL OF HYDROGEN SULPHIDE FROM SMALL WATER SOURCES USING POLYMERIC FIBROUS MEMBRANES
Original language description
The hydrogen sulphide and its ionic forms are frequent waters pollutants and should be removed before the use. The molecular hydrogen sulphide has a high volatility and rather non-polar properties, what gives a good opportunity for using transfer to gaseous phase as cleaning technique. Experiments with the hydrophobic microporous polypropylene hollow fibre membrane, previously tested for other volatile organic and inorganic compounds removal, proved to be a perspective technique. The combined pervaporation-aeration process of hydrogen sulphide and soluble sulphides removal, using special arrangement of the fibre-bundles, was tested and the influences of water and air flows, temperature and acidity were studied. The special arrangement of the fibre-bundles proved to be convenient for the practical purification of contaminated waters in appliances, where small amount of clean water (litres per minute) is demanded.
