Database Mirroring in fault-tolerant continuos technological process control
Original language description
The technological processes in metallurgical or raw material industry often operate continuously and require support of an information system. A critical element is maintaining data that represent time series. The system failure will cause a disruption in trend calculations, balance evaluations, and prediction tasks. A possible solution for ensuring the fault-tolerant system is to use database mirroring. We studied implementations of mirroring technology of the selected database systems - Microsoft SQLServer, MySQL and Caché. By simulating critical failures we tested the systems behavior and their resilience against failure. The aim is to determine whether the database mirroring is suitable in continuous metallurgical processes at affordable cost.
