Calculation of surface tension of real steel grades at 1550 oC
Original language description
In the presented work, new thermodynamic approach based on basic thermodynamics was used for calculation of the surface tension of steel. Surface tension was calculated for three steel grades and calculated values were compared with experimental values at 1550 oC. It is necessary to use standard for this thermodynamic approach, so two standards (pure iron and binary iron-nickel alloy) were used for testing of the approach. All necessary thermodynamic properties (i.e. Gibbs energy, entropy, volume) werecalculated using Thermo-Calc4.1 software with TCFE7 (Thermo-Calc Fe-based alloys) database. Very good agreement was observed between calculated and measured values of surface tension, the biggest difference was 6.32% (0.093 N.m-1). Both standards give similar results.
