Relation between the grain size development and mechanical properties of 34CrMo4 steel after four types of treatment
Original language description
Steel 34CrMo4 is world widely used steel for variety of products, e.g. for castings, forgings, shafts, bars etc. Desired mechanical properties can be achieved by various treatment modes such as in a metallurgical process by Ti, Nb, V, Zr or N microalloying. Another suitable way is a use of different heat treatment due to excellent hardenability and temperability or by use of combination of these methods during thermomechanical forming. To achieve the best combination of mechanical properties, the grain size is one of the most important microstructural parameters. In paper investigation of 34CrMo4 steel grain size together with the microstructure after four treatments including as hot rolled state, after normalization annealing, normalization annealing with subsequent quenching and tempering and as final treatment of quenching and tempering were evaluated in relation to achieve values of mechanical properties after each treatment. Microstructural investigation, grain size evaluation and mechanical properties were part of solution. The most favourable and balanced mechanical properties was treatment mode based on the quenching and tempering process applied after hot forming.
