Deposition of Al2O3 coating on the fireclay substrate.
Original language description
Thin Al2O3 layers deposited on the fireclay substrate were prepared by using sol gel method. Aluminium isopropoxide, used as Al2O3 precursor, was dissolved in distilled water and sol was stabilized by using nitric acid. Thin layers were deposited by dip coating method followed by drying and thermal treatment at temperature 800 or 1240 oC. The X - ray powder diffraction was used to determine thin layers phase composition. The Al2O3 layers morphology was obtained by scanning electron microscopy. The confocal microscopy was used to layer thickness determination. The efficiency of prepared layers was determined by comparative corrosion tests. Thin alumina films improve corrosion resistance of the fireclay substrate against molten steel.
