    Conducting polymer/ghassoul nanocomposites

  • Original language description

    Ghassoul, a stevensite-rich clay from Morocco, was used as a component of electrically conducting polymer/ghassoul nanocomposites with polymer:clay ratio 1:1. Polypyrrole/ghassoul and polyaniline/ghassoul nanocomposites were obtained by polymerization of pyrrole and anilinium sulfate, respectively, in aqueous suspension of ghassoul. Successful intercalation of polymer into the structure of ghassoul was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Tablets pressed from polypyrrole/ghassoul nanocomposite exhibit high electrical anisotropy. Conductivity in direction parallel to the tablet’s plane is two orders of magnitude higher than conductivity in direction perpendicular to the tablet’s plane. Changes in electric current in dependence on changes of external pressure applied to the tablets were measured and the most stable changes were found for quite low conductive sample polyaniline/ghassoul.
