    Design of protection of contactless identification system for ladles

    To eliminate manual inputs that negatively affect the monitoring system of casting ladles, the method of contactless identification of ladles was proposed in Liberty Ostrava a.s. It is an RFID method based on the principle of radio data transmission between the sensor and a moving object (in our case, a ladle), which is equipped with a so-called transponder (RFID tag). RFID transponders can be of various designs, mainly depending on the nature of the application. They are located on the shell of the ladle so they are exposed to the same conditions as the surface of the ladle. These are mainly extremely high temperatures, often exceeding 250 oC. The maximum operating temperature of the RFID transponder is 120 oC; it will be damaged at higher temperatures. For this reason, several insulation protections have been proposed, which should ensure that the temperature of the RFID transponder will be lower than the critical temperature of 120 oC throughout the operation of the ladle. The temperature field of the insulation protection was calculated by the Crank-Nicolson method based on the determined boundary conditions for selected insulation configurations. On this basis, the most suitable variant, the insulation protection for the RFID transponder, was chosen. This protection was subsequently tested directly in the operation of the steel plant during the operational measurement when the temperatures in the centre of the insulation protection and on the shell of the casting ladle were measured using K-type thermocouples
