EFFECT OF HEAT TREATMENT ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF NiTi ALLOY USED IN BIOMEDICINE

  • Original language description

This work aimed to investigate the effect of heat treatment and strain rate on the mechanical properties of the NiTi alloy. A NiTi sheet with a chemical composition of 56.31 wt. % Ni and 43.69 wt.% Ti and a thickness of 2 mm was used for the experiment, from which samples were taken for metallographic analysis and tensile testing. The samples were subjected to solution treatment at 850 oC followed by aging at 450 oC (STA) or only aging (A) at the same temperature. Samples in the as-received state (AR) and after heat treatment were examined by optical microscopy to detect changes in the microstructure after thermal treatment. The tensile test was performed for the three conditions at different strain rates, namely 6.67.10-5 and 6.67.10-4 s-1. The superelastic behavior was evaluated in relation to the microstructure and phase content.
