Waste incineration products stabilizing concerning legislative requirements in landfill leakage lisks assessments

  • Original language description

The biotic components of ecosystems in the current environment are often negatively affected by the generation of many wastes with hazardous properties. Hazardous waste as a product of the municipal waste incineration process was stabilized with the use of selected and evaluated types of hydraulic binders. The basis of the method is a cement matrix in which the product solidification takes place. Mixing the end-product, cement and water resulted in a mixture that was exposed to a solidification process. Aqueous leachates obtained from matrices were prepared and subsequently analysed for selected toxic elements. The level of fixation of toxic elements was a decisive parameter in the selection of the most suitable alkaline binder. In most cases, leachate concentration was in accordance with applicable legislation of the Czech Republic. It has been concluded that cement is a suitable binder for toxic element stabilization. There are two reasons for this: the economic aspect and easy access to this material. Due to this, cementation can be considered as a very prospective method.
