In decision making processes we very often need to access data that do not fit into one PC. Such data are often stored and processed on mainframes (VSAM,DB2,IMS,...) or large Unix systems. Common features of these systems is "poor" user interface (usually character oriented) and "old fashioned" programming languages such as PLI, Cobol, CICS and so on. According to the statistics more than 60% of large systems in routine operation are in Cobol language. Though the business logic is all right the user isnot satisfied with the user interface and can not get what he wants easily.
