Global Stimuli for Urban Socio-spatial Differentiation
Original language description
The paper is focusing on social polarization and spatial segregation in major cities with special regard to individuals and households. Socio-spatial differentiation is a very sensitive and topical issue especially nowadays when it finds itself in specific context of globalization. With the process of restructuralisation of labour markets and the changes in the composition of jobs as well as the decreasing role of welfare state there came also changes in income distribution. Such changes manifest themselves among others in the form of growing social polarization, which is then transposed to the residential segregation. The paper culminates in the derivation of the theoretical framework that illuminates the causes and consequences of socio-spatial differentiation in major cities and identifies the role of the national and municipal corrective efforts in this process.
