The submitted paper attempts to map the processes of transformation and of municipal differentiation in the district of Karvina. The main goal is to present development of old industrial regions and transformation of the labour market. The spatial differentiation is considered in the context of the labour market. For this reason, the attention is focused on the sectoral structure of labour market, unemployment development, spatial links between local labour markets, education structure of population andconsequently on the migration behaviour. Basic information sources are The Census data (SLDB - Census of population, houses and appartments) in 1991 and 2001
