In current socio-economic conditions the regions of traditional industry are often compelled to cope with numerous troubles. The transformation of old industrial regions is generally perceived as a necessity for their future economic development. Moreover, industrial regions in post-communistic countries constitute entirely new category of problem regions since their economic decline differs from their western counterparts substantially both in terms of the origin and the character of their troubles. The main objective of the article is the examination of aspects and continuities of transformation of old industrial regions in both advanced and transitional countries

Czech description

V současných socioekonomických podmínkách se tradiční průmyslové regiony potýkají s mnohými těžkostmi. Transformace starých průmyslových regionů je obecně vnímána jako nutnost pro jejich úspěšný budoucí ekonomický rozvoj. Průmyslové regiony v postkomunistických zemích navíc utvářejí zcela novou kategorii problémových oblastí, protože jejich ekonomický úpadek se podstatně odlišuje od úpadku jejich západních předchůdců a to jak co do původu tak i charakteru těchto problémů. Hlavním cílem článku je prozkoumání aspektů a souvislostí transformace starých průmyslových regionů a to jak ve vyspělých tak i tranzitivních zemích.
