Alignment between the business (users, executives) and information technologies in various organisations is one of the top management concerns today. The discussion is based on the MIS Triad model analysis and its extension reflecting the strategic issues of IT implementations today. The understanding of ITs nature and perspectives should be an attribute of all three triad?s nodes representatives: users, executives and, of course, the IT staff. In such case the key question is to what degree the IT expertise should be shared by each player. Corresponding knowledge profiles and responsibilities for the users and the executives are defined. Specific attention is given to the IS development (planning) process structure. The system analysis approach and the strategic management one, both offering the information system development process structure, are critically compared from the perspective of what new the strategic conception (which is younger, of course) brings.
