Already more than 5 years are services of general interest subject of intense debate at EU level. Services of general interest (whether economic or non) is undoubtedly at the center of the European social model. Providing high quality, sustainable and affordable services of general interest is considered an essential element in achieving social and territorial cohesion across the EU-27 as well as in achieving a competitive European economy. Organizations providing services of general economic interest is left in the competence of Member States. Therefore, there are different situations in the market of services of general economic interest. The paper presents partial results of the project "Comparison of services of general economic interest in the Czech Republic and Germany. Of the surveyed services sector is selected, where were found the greatest difference - the water supply and sanitation.
