Each and every company requires a comprehensive security policy to ensure data security within the its information systems. The paper explores the relationship between security policy and data security. A series of steps needed for the implementation ofa comprehensive security policy within a company is proposed, and the reasons for each step are explained. Some of the steps have to be applied to the field of information systems, while some others need to be carried out within the company's managementsystem. The implementation procedure must be coordinated by corporate management.
