Overall Evaluation of Cohesion in Visegrad Four Countries and Regions.

  • Original language description

In the last decades the reducing of economic and social disparities can be observed in the European Union. Decreasing of unbalanced development of EU countries and regions, for the contribution of EU cohesion policy, has brought GDP growth, increase in employment, strengthening of competitiveness and enhancing the cohesion of the European territory. Nevertheless there are still persistent economic, social and territorial disparities, especially between the regions of ?old? and ?new? EU Member States. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the overall level of cohesion of the Visegrad Four Group (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) as Central European countries which joined the EU in 2004 and have faced the existing imbalances at national and regional level.
