Original language description
Local government is important player in local development processes. A new dimension to its status brings a change from industrial to post-industrial society, based on knowledge. Being a competent actor of building a knowledge economy needs to have established conditions for this position. Given position of the Czech and Slovak municipalities is evaluated by the system of indicator. Important finding in both countries is that the role of municipalities as an actor in the knowledge economy is growing with its size; respectively this relationship is relevant for medium and large cities.
