Symptoms of Baumol´s Cost Disease in the Czech Economy
Original language description
The article answers the question if the Czech economy suffers from Baumol´s cost disease. Baumol´s theory explains the transfer of production factor - labour - from the secondary sector to the sector of services which results in the stagnation of economic growth. Baumol also explains increasing expenditures in the public sector in relation to GDP in developed economies. Although nearly half a century old, the theory is up-to-date at present, when the issue of public finances is discussed in many European countries especially in connection with debt crisis of Eurozone.
