Insurance in Islamic countries cannot work on classical principals of a conventional insurance system. The solution to this issue was the creation of a new concept of Islamic insurance in line with the principles of Islamic finance system, for which theterm Takaful became established, and which is not only an innovative approach to Islamic finance but also an alternative to conventional insurance. The article aims to explain the conceptual framework of Takaful insurance, its origin, definition, operators, and also to Takaful products. Great attention is paid to the explanation of the Takaful models. It is necessary to keep in mind that Takaful is not a conventional insurance, but a system based on the religious requirements. The authors conclude withthe key challenges for the Takaful insurance industry.
