THE COMPARISON OF REVEALED COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE OF THE EU AND THE BRICS COUNTRIES
Original language description
This paper deals with the revealed comparative advantage (RCA) of the EU27 and the BRICS countries and comparison of results. This is a current topic because of changes in position of the economies in international trade. The position of the European Union in the world economy is being slowly replaced by emerging markets. The approach of the Balassa index monitors the revealed comparative advantage of each economy. The results show that the distribution of the RCA is relatively wide among the surveyed economies and that there is always one pair of economies having most of its comparative advantages in the same groups of goods. From the analysis it is also clear for some economies that if they have a comparative advantage in the export of certain raw materials, they achieve comparative advantage in export of products made from these materials as well. There are also various hypotheses about the RCA index of each country.
