This contribution is a shortened version of an upcoming paper. A longitudinal single case study explored energy efficiency investments as an example of decision-making under uncertainty and identified energy manager´s low status, non-strategic nature ofenergy efficiency investments, perceived hidden costs, and uncertainty and risk perception as main implementation barriers. We design a conceptual decision framework combining scenarios, strategy maps, investment evaluation template and real options analysis. We argue this tool helps addressing the barriers: (1) energy managers assume an engaged toolmaker role and thus improve their status, (2) shape the decision process and frame energy investments as strategic, (3) assess hidden costs, (4) co-define and appropriate company relevant uncertainties and impact risk evaluation. Following the strategic contingencies theory we highlight coping with uncertainty as an important factor in both increasing power and shaping decisions. Uncertainty
