Original language description
The aim of this article is to investigate the effect of fiscal policy on economic growth with special focus on institutional conditions. From a methodological point of view, panel data estimation is used for 24 EU countries in the period 1996-2012. Countries are divided into two groups by high or low institutional conditions. The results of the analysis show that institutional conditions have a significant impact on economic growth via fiscal policy. In the case of countries with low institutional conditions, productive expenditure have negative impact on economic growth apparently because of inefficient use of these expenditure. Conversely, in countries with high institutional conditions, these expenditure have pro-growth effect.
