Reasonableness and Restrictions of the Use of Lean Management in Small Business
Original language description
Lean management (LM) is a managerial approach for improving processes based on a complex system of interrelated socio-technical practices. Driven by the success achieved by Toyota and several other lean organizations worldwide, a growing number of companies have adopted LM practices to satisfy market needs, cut costs and gain an edge over competitors. LM is a systemic method for the elimination of waste. LM is a universal method of business management, but it is most suitable for large manufacturing corporations. Small enterprises, due to their specificity, face many barriers in the implementation of LM. The main aim of the article is to start a discussion about whether the implementation of LM is reasonable in the case of small business and what barriers small entrepreneurs encounter when applying LM, based on a review of the economic literature.
