The consumption-income ratio and its variability during the business cycle: a heterogeneous agent case
Original language description
In this paper we use a simpli ed agent based model to monitor the consumption-income ratio during the business cycle. We distinguish among heterogeneous households with di erent incomes determined by labor structure with various tier-workers. The model is capable to generate cyclic movement of economic activity according to the level of economic sentiment in the society. We compare the consumption-income ratio and its variability during the busi- ness cycle for di erent tier workers. We found out that lower-income workers have in general higher consumption-income ratio. The cyclical movement of economic activity a ects mainly private incomes of higher-tier workers, there- fore increases the variability of their consumption-income ratio, even with the high level of savings. In addition, we found out that the consumption-income ratio for tier workers is countercyclic.
