Do Traditional Trade Barriers Still Exist? Evidence on Panel Gravity Model Approach.
Original language description
The international trade flows are not fully liberalized, thus, a lot of trade barriers (e.g. tariffs), which distort trade patterns, still exist. Geographic and cultural distance also negatively affects trade flows. The aim of the paper is to analyse howthe variables represented by geographical, cultural and administrative barriers affect bilateral trade among selected countries. This paper observes the extent of the effect of these barriers on bilateral trade flows between the EU Member countries andBRICS over the period 1995-2013. The tested hypothesis is whether the value of exchanged goods is already so high between the EU and BRICS that these barriers do not affect trade anymore. The gravity approach is widely used in foreign trade research in order to gain deeper understanding about the power of bilateral trade among countries. The panel gravity approach with random effects is applied. The empirical results did not support the hypotheses that barriers does not matter anymore ne
