Socioeconomic development largely determined by the level of disparities between regions and countries has become a debated topic in the last two to three decades in the frame of European Cohesion policy. Regions are considered drivers of economy and thelocomotives of performance in conditions of European integration. The renewed interest in regional issues has generated a new demand for statistical indicators at the sub-national level. Policy makers are interested in assessing differences in economicperformances between regions or the concentration of economic activities in certain areas of their countries. We can identify several approaches and technique of measurement and evaluation of disparities between states and regions at European level. Themethods differ in structure of using indicators of disparities and ways of their processing. There is considerable debate over which technique is the most suitable to measure regional disparities.
