The Productivity of Beds of Basic Medical Branches according to the Regions in the Czech Republic
Original language description
The efficiency of the acute bed care is often very discussed and evaluated in relation to appropriated and needed number of beds in a particular region. The paper monitors and evaluates the productivity of beds of the acure care of basic medical branches – the internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology and paediatrics in terms of regions during the period 2003-2013. The number of beds is the input variable and the number of hospitalised patients is the output variable for measuring the technical efficiency. The input-oriented Malmquist Productivity Index and correlation analysis are used for testing the productivity. The results show that the productivity of beds improved in all 14 regions of the Czech Republic in the branches surgery and gynaecology. In the case of the internal medicine the productivity deteriorated with 12 regions and the paediatrics with 4 regions. Only in the case of the Capital City of Prague the productivity of beds in year 2013 in comparison in year 2003 improved in all the basic medical branches.
