Current Issues of Research and Development Policy in EU Countries
Original language description
This paper deals with the position, trends, financing possibilities, and fields of research and development policies in EU countries. Furthermore, it also focuses on selected indicators of research and development policies. Research results bring a comparison of total expenditures on R&D (GERD), expressed as R&D intensity as % of GDP in the EU (28) in years 2004-2013 and in the EU countries (in years 2004 and 2013). Using correlation analysis, correlations between total R&D expenditure and selected R&Dindicators (Business enterprise expenditure on R&D, public expenditure i.e. expenditure on R&D in higher education sector and Government expenditure on R&D, Human resources in science and technology (HRST) as % of active population and Patent applications to the EPO applications per million inhabitants) are observed in EU countries in years 2004 and 2013. Through correlation analysis, the strongest correlation in total R&D expenditure and R&D expenditure in the business enterprise sector
