Evaluation of information technology projects using data envelopment analysis and balanced scorecard
Original language description
Information technology (IT) is important element for enterprises. IT helps to achieve a competitive advantage and organizational innovation. A general problem for IT management is to decide which IT project to select. There exist many methods how to evaluate the project. There are usually many quantitative and qualitative factors to be considered in evaluation process. This paper combines two well-established managerial methodologies - balanced scorecard (BSC) and data envelopment analysis (DEA). BSC approach is used as a comprehensive framework for defining IT projects evaluation criteria. DEA is used as a non-parametric technique for ranking IT projects. This special approach is used for the evaluation of polish IT projects. The results are showing that the I-DEA-BSC generally gives higher values of efficiency.
