The main objective of this paper is to point out the importance and role of entrepreneur and entrepreneurship in contemporary society through the prism of economic development trends. The paper outlines views on the role of entrepreneur, entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial discovery in economic and social development from the perspective of selected directions of economic thought. The main attention is paid to the role of entrepreneurship in the context of the transition from an industrial economy to a knowledge-based, entrepreneurship and shared economy.
