Original language description
To make the readers familiar with the development of the region the article will start with three different pictures of the region in the years 1850 ? 1950. The first picture will offer of the initial situation of Ostrava region in the half of 19th century. Second picture it will describe the industrial region and Ostrava as stabilized administrative-industrial center and border city the interwar situation. Third picture will provide the reader with the reorientation of Ostrava from the war weapon industry to the region serving to the purposes of the socialist industrialization stressing the iron and coal production the after 1945. Particular attention will be paid to the so called ?metal-farmer villages? as a transitional type between the urban and rural areas having a rural character of settlement, but the urban socio-economic structure (industrial workers). Here the majority of inhabitants was connected through their profession with the industrial centers, but with their way of life
